Local Scouting Organizations

Adventure Guides of Orange County

Adventure Guides was developed by the YMCA to help strengthen family relationships by participation in outdoor and recreational activities. The Adventure Guides Experience enables parents and kids to have fun while sharing new adventures.

Boy Scouts of Orange County

The Boy Scouts of America is the nation's foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training. In the future Scouting will continue to offer young people responsible fun and adventure; instill in young people lifetime values and develop in them ethical character as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law.

Girl Scouts of Orange County

Through a wide range of enriching experiences-field trips, cultural exchanges, community service, leadership opportunities, skill-building workshops, outdoor education-girls grow courageous and strong. Girl Scout program is progressive and age-appropriate, with the girls' roles and responsibilities expanding as they move through the different levels. Girl Scouting helps cultivate values, social conscience and self-esteem in young girls, while also teaching them critical life skills that will enable them to succeed as adults.

Scout Badge Opportunities

Bowers Museum of Cultural Art and Bowers Kidseum

Children's museum in Santa Ana. Troops fulfill cultural and arts badge requirements with special art projects and presentations.

A specific list is available. Staff can also customize an art project to fit a troop's individual needs.

Bridges Equestrian

Located in San Juan Capistrano, this is a full spectrum riding school and training facility dedicated to the complete education of Rider and Horse. Bridges Training Stable will tailor our two-hour Introduction to Horsemanship class to fit your requirements for scouting Merit Badges. This program includes 45 minutes "in the saddle" instruction, as well as 1 hour 15 minutes general horse-care and specialized hands-on education for horse enthusiasts.

ExplorOcean

Locdated in Newport Beach, their Boy Scout Merit Badge opportunities include:

1) American Heritage - Learn about the beginnings of Newport Harbor by visiting their Sea of Adventure gallery, 2) Model Design and Building - Visit their ship model collections and get inspired to build your own models for your merit badge, 3) Oceanography - Visit their website to view the ExplorOcean video series to learn all about tides and waves. You can also find ideas for science experiments for your merit badge in their online lesson plans, and 4) Photography - visit the galleries located in the picturesque Balboa Fun Zone. Create a dynamic photo journal in the galleries and around the ExplorOcean grounds.

Carol Fallon Riding Center

The Carol Fallon Riding Center in San Juan Capistrano provides a safe, professional, fun environment for youth and adults to learn lifetime equestrian skills and to become skilled riders. Girl Scout and Brownie horse badges can be obtained - please call to arrange days and times.

Inside the Outdoors

Inside the Outdoors® is Orange County Department of Education's environmental education program and has been providing hands-on, interactive outdoor experiences for Southern California students since 1974. We are passionate about sharing the love of nature and science with students. We offer full and half day field trip programs to educate students from Kindergarten to 7th grade at 13 different sites around Orange County. Our Traveling Scientist programs bring hands-on science education into the classroom. We also offer week long programs for 5th and 6th graders at 6 different Outdoor Science School sites in the San Bernardino mountains. Scout badge programs are available.

Lil Chef School

At Lil Chef School your children will build confidence and self esteem as they grow in their ability to create and help mom in the kitchen.

Does your scout troop need a venue to earn their Cooking Merit Badge? We love the Scouts and are here to help! We cater to all troop categories.

Pacific Marine Mammal Center
Located in Laguna Beach

Pacific Marine Mammale Center rescues, rehabilitates, and releases sick and injured seals and sea lions. Scouts are a valued part of their community. Girls can earn two council badges via participating in an educational program at the center. Cub scouts and boy scouts are also welcome - they will have a chance to see current recovering patients and discover how human actions are affecting ocean life.

Starr Ranch Sanctuary
Located in Trabuco Canyon

Starr Ranch Sanctuary offers educational and research opportunities for ages 7 and up. For scouts, Starr Ranch willl modify programs to suit your troop's needs.

Girl Scouts - can help meet requirements of Try-its (Animals, Eco-Explorer, Plants, Watching Wildlife, Water Everywhere) and Badges (Plants and Animals, Water Wonders, Wild life and more).

Boy Scouts - can help meet rank and badge requirements of Cub Scouts (Achievements and Arrow Points), Webelos Outdoor Activity Badges (Forester and Naturalist), and Boy Scout Merit Badges (Bird Study, Environmental Science, Fish and Wildlife Management, Insect Study , Nature, Reptile and Amphibian Study, Mammal Study, and Plant Science).

Scouting Activities & Field Trips

Heritage Museum of Orange County

Kellogg House is a great activity for youth or scout program - a hands-on tour of the historic 1898 Kellogg house. Scouts learn about the Kellogg family, their home, and their community. Children get a feel for what life was like in the 1890s by playing with vintage toys, doing laundry, making butter, trying on Victorian costumes, making music on a parlor pump organ, and other activities. Two hours.
