Two of the top health concerns expressed by most people these days are weight and aging.

Weight-loss programs and surgical or non-surgical "face lifts" and hair-loss treatments abound these days. Certain natural programs that avoid drugs and surgery can be very helpful and safe.

Here are a few simple tips that promote a trimmer, more youthful life.

1. Get plenty of quality rest. Your body detoxifies and rebuilds overnight. Your kidneys clean out at a certain hour, lungs at another, and so on. Various repairs and regeneration processes also occur during sleep.

As it turns out, the ideal schedule is to go to bed around dusk or a little after it gets dark, and to rise at dawn. For many, this means bed by 9 or 10 pm, up by 5 or 6 am.

Staying up to midnight or 1 or 2 am is very hard on the body and may lead to premature aging. Some researchers say that every hour of sleep before midnight is equal to two or three hours after midnight. Television, of course, is the #1 cause of persistent late nights, so cutting back on the boob-tube is vital to your success in getting onto a healthful schedule.

2. Eat enough of the right kind of fats. Your body uses certain fats and fat-components (called fatty acids) to create vital hormones and other things that help keep you young. The "low-fat" mania promoted over the past 40 years has been discredited by much research in recent years. Those who profit from low-fat thinking are in no hurry to tell consumers the facts, so we have to find out for ourselves.

Good-for-you fats include organic virgin coconut oil, organic, whole-fat, grass-fed dairy and the essential fatty acids found in high-quality cod liver oil. So-called "healthy" fats, the polyunsaturates promoted by margarine manufacturers, have been found to cause significant health problems, contrary to industry propaganda. Interestingly, eating proper fats can cause one to LOSE weight!

3. Include foods high in fiber and antioxidants in your diet. Broccoli is an extremely health-promoting, cancer-fighting vegetable. Blueberries are amongst the highest in antioxidant potential of all fruits. Antioxidants are also good for use externally, in natural body care products.

4. Drastically reduce or eliminate grains and refined sugars from your diet. These too-easy-to-burn carbs can cause large swings your blood sugar. Your body responds with surges and falls of insulin, and these can cause hormonal changes in the body that add up to substantal weight gain and premature aging.

5. Use only natural, non-toxic products in, on and around your body. Out with the preservatives, petrochemicals, synthetic anti-bacterials, and additives in foods or cosmetics or household cleaners.

Enjoy a longer, healthier, more youthful life: Rest, eat proper fats, fiber & anti-oxidants, reduce your carbs and use natural products.
